Winter Wonderland in Austria

For twenty years I have been visiting Austria on a regular basis. With small foot steps I experienced winters in Austria: my first snow, my first ski lesson and of course the first charm of Austria with its mighty mountains, crispy cold days, hot chocolate and Gluhwein moments. It is a country that you should visit during the winter as it has a lot to offer

Winter Wonderland

If you are a fanatic skier or snowboarder, Austria is one of the best countries to go to. For years I have been going to the Zugspitz Arena, where you can do all sorts of winter activities. In this area you will find slopes that are good for all levels of experience: from beginner to advanced. If you are not such a fanatic sportsman- or woman, you can go for the more peaceful cross-country skiing or a romantic sleigh ride. Even in winter you can do beautiful walks. Besides these outdoor activities, it is always a good idea to grab a good book and enjoy a hot chocolate in a warm café.

Where to stay?

For every person there is an option. You can choose to camp outside in a caravan which is very cozy or tent which is rather challenging and only for die hards. Do you want something more luxurious? Austria has many guest houses, apartments and of course hotels in any category where you can stay.

My tips:

Since I was young I have been staying at Biberhof in Biberwier, a traditional Austrian house offering apartments and a campsite that is advisable for all ages. This is a really nice place to stay at if you want to experience camping during winter. A couple of years ago the sons of the owners’ started La Posch which is a ‘village’ consisting of super-de-luxe authentic chalets that is located in-between the mountains. So if you have a bigger budget then this should be a good location for you to experience the charm of Austria.

Austria is a country where there is something for everyone.
