A Day Trip to Waiheke Island

Only a 40-minute ferry ride away from Auckland is where you will find Waiheke Island. This island is ranked by Lonely Planet as the 5th best destination in the world. It is home to fantastic vineyards and beaches that you can explore on foot, by bicycle, bus or car.

Waiheke Island

As I was visiting friends in Auckland, we decided to spend a sunny Sunday on this beautiful island and try out some delicious wines from New Zealand. If you arrive on the island you can get information about the bus schedules and all the different wineries that you can find on the island. It will describe exactly what kind of wines you can get at which winery and where they are located.

Here is a photo impression and some information about the three vineyards that I visited.

Goldie Estate

This is the oldest vineyard of the island where you can try handcrafted wines

Stonyridge Vineyard

To be honest, at the Stonyridge Vineyard we didn’t enjoy wine but a good glass of Champagne. You should never say no to Champagne

Te Motu

Te Motu is known for its red wines and the best way to enjoy these wines is while you are looking at a beautiful scenery of vines.
