When I was younger I visited Austria mainly during winter, but when I grew up I also visited it in summer. I discovered a whole new side of this gorgeous country: green mountain slopes, wild mountain flowers, cows with bells that give you the authentic Austria feeling and – amazingly often – that blue sky with sunshine (which you also get during winters).
Summer in Austria
What a transformation this country undergoes when it is summer! Instead of white mountains you will see Austria in all its summer glory with wild mountain flowers and green trees everywhere you look. There is so much to do that I don’t know where to start!
The Hills are alive with the Sound of Music.
The Zugspitz Arena is the area where I go to when I am in Austria. Here you can enjoy the beauty of the mountains on foot, by bike or on horseback. You can experience Austrian culture and traditions and don’t forget the amazing food.
For those who know me or who have read other blog posts will know that hiking is one of my favourite activities when I am abroad. If that is also an activity that you like, well then Austria should definitely be on your travel list. There are all sorts of hiking tracks, and they will bring you to waterfalls, hidden mountain lakes, beautiful forests and to the top of some mountains where you can enjoy an ice cold drink while enjoying the amazing landscape that surrounds you. If you want to be rewarded for your hiking efforts, you should choose those hikes where you can get a stamp. If you have gained a certain amount of stamps you can get a bronze, silver or gold broche in return. The Zugspitz Arena page provides you with more information about the hikes in this area.
